Dave Barry's Greatest Hits

I have recently begun reading "Dave Barry's Greatest Hits" by Dave Barry. It is simply a collection of some of his essays. I chose this book, because I expected to be entertained. I have read some of his stuff before, and thought him a real hoot. So far, I have not been let down. His sense of humor never seems to fail. There was one essay that I read without laughing, but I fell asleep immediately after reading it, so I don't think that it really counts.
Mr. Barry seems to have a friendly, almost personal relationship with his audience. He talks as if you know exactly what he's talking about, and it is a self fulfilling prophecy. Even if I have no idea what he is talking about, I am willing to pretend I do, just so that I can be made to laugh.
Mr. Barry's intended audience, i believe, is anyone with a good sense of humor. He tells about receiving letters from people who have read his stuff that obviously have no sense of humor. I can understand that his writing might be offensive if you took it literally, but anyone who has laughed before would realize that his writing is written with the intention of making you laugh, along with pointing out irony in our world occasionally. His writing really pulls the reader along, as long as i'm laughing, i don't want to put the book down.
